Malawi President Bingu wa Mutharika has died after doctors at Kamuzu Central Hospital failed to resuscitate him when he suffered a cardiac arrest earlier in the day.

The 78-year-old President was taken to the hospital in the capital Thursday morning after he reportedly collapsed.

Malawi President Bingu wa Mutharika, 78 on Thursday was evacuated to Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe where doctors were attending to him after emergency medical difficulties.

Sources at the State House said Mutharika had collapsed while he was having an audience with a Mrs Penimulungu and was rushed to the hospital.
