One of the police officers at Kasungu Police Station has been thrown into cell by his fellow law enforcer for raping a female convict, Central Region Police Publicist John Namalenga has confirmed.

The officer, Godffrey Msulira who hails from Salima district is said to have raped the convicted, 21 years old, on Thursday night, 24 March, 2011.

In that night, the women wanted to visit the toilet and as the way it is in Malawi police cells she had to call for an officer on duty to unlock the door and escort her. Msulira was on duty and after being called for decided to invent an additional benefit to police night duty from the situation. It is reported that it was this time when he raped her.

The woman bravely reported the matter to other police officers who were also on duty that time, and after thorough investigation Msulira was arrested.

“He is currently answering rape charges at Kasungu magistrate court, where he pleaded not guilty,” Namalenga said, adding, ‘three out of five witnesses have so far testified against Msulira.’
