SCANDAL: DEMO INJUNCTION WAS OBTAINED BY UNLICENCED LAWYER: WE WILL SUMMON HIM- LAW SOCIETY

A lawyer whose licence
expired some weeks ago
was the one who obtained
injunction in the Lilongwe
High Court last night
stopping demonstrators for marching today.

The lawyer, Chiza Mbekeani
obtained a court injunction
from the newly elevated
High Court Judge Chifundo
Kachale restraining the civil
society and the ‘Concerned Citizens’ from proceeding
with the demonstrations.

The injunction, which was
given to Reverend
MacDonald Sembeleka,
Undule Mwakasungula, Davie
Charles Kanyoza, James
Jumbe, Chester John Mwale, Andrew Kamlopa, Frank
Mkandawire and James
Nhlane reads that the
organizers risk contempt of
court charges, which may
result in imprisonment or seizure of their properties,
should they proceed with
the demonstrations.

However the development
has irked the Malawi Law
Society (MLS) which has said
will summon the lawyer to
hear from his side on what
motivated him to do that.

“This tendency is not
accepted any where in the
world, so we will summon
him and deliver necessary
punishment,” said MLS
president Jabber Alide. @Malawi Voice
