Chasowa was murdered, Pathologist reports

CHASOWA: Murdered

There is great shock and anger at the Polytechnic, a constituent college of the University of Malawi, following the report by local pathologist that the death of a fourth-year engineering student was not suicide as claimed by police but murder.
College of Medicine pathologist Dr Charles Dzamalala report says 25-year-old Robert Chasowa, a political activist, died of blunt trauma consistent with assault.

“Based on the isolated nature of the fresh injuries to the head with prominent parts of the head and the rest of the body spared of these fresh injuries, it is my opinion that these injuries are mostly likely due to assault to the head rather than a fall,” says Dr. Dzamalala in his report.

On 23 September 2011 the body of Chasowa was found lying face down covered in blood at the college.

The pathologist underlined in the report that he had no opportunity to examine the body at the scene of the incident as police had already transferred the corpse to the morgue when a request for an autopsy was made.

Dr. Dzamalala’s report dated September 29, 2011 clearly says Chasowa died of ‘unnatural causes’ as the student’s body had “severe traumatic intracranial haemorrhage and head injuries with comminuted and depressed fracture to skull bones”.

Some investigations say Inspector General Peter Mukhito and Commissioner Josse has met Chasowa and some students offering them money saying President Bingu wa Mutharika wanted them to disrupt the national demonstrations which were planned by civil society.

Mukhito is on record saying Chasowa killed himself because he was being hunted by police.

“Yes, he was wanted by Police because he was named by someone in our hands for authoring/distributing anti- government newsletters,” he said.

Chasowa was one of the leaders of a students’ movement and was involved in protests against the Government, along with other civil society organisations.

A few days prior to his death, police officers went to the university campus to question him about his involvement in the student organisation Youth for Freedom and Democracy (YFD), a movement which opposes the rule of President Mutharika.

Black Moses, president of the YFD is currently facing sedition charges for being behind the publication of what the police chief called ‘anti-government propaganda’.

The murder of Chasowa comes amid a crack-down on anti- government critics by regime thugs.

Already, three properties belonging to human rights activists and opposition leaders have been torched by petrol bombs in state sponsored terrorism. No one has been arrested so far in connection to the arson attacks.

I remember the days when I used to have windows 98 on my computer and it was so
unstable with all the software I had installed on it. Well, you
probably wouldn’t have much fun sulking either. His self hypnosis MP3 download ‘Letting Go of the Past’ is now available.

  • Good day! I know this is kinda off topic but I was wondering which
blog platform are you using for this site? I’m getting sick and tired of
Wordpress because I’ve had issues with hackers and I’m looking at options for
another platform. I would be awesome if you could point
me in the direction of a good platform.
